sixteenth century Jack

sixteenth century Jack

The valet de treffles (valet of clubs), dated about 1520. This is an early example of the Paris pattern, which is now the French national standard and has been since the fall of Napoleon’s rather egotistical design. He is frequently named Lancelot, which eventually becomes part of the pattern.
